Intoxicated truck driver causes fatal car accident

A terrifying car accident recently occurred in New Jersey that cost one Ocean Township man his life. The 45-year-old victim was driving a sport utility vehicle on Route 440 in New Jersey when his vehicle was involved in a multi-vehicle crash. The crash began when a tractor-trailer collided with the back of a sedan and then jackknifed, leading to the involvement of several other vehicles including the SUV driven by the victim who lost his life.

The deceased victim was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was also assessed for injuries and it was discovered that he had been reported by other drivers for operating his rig in an erratic manner. It was found that the driver of the tractor-trailer was intoxicated at the time of the crash and was charged with driving under the influence by the Middlesex County prosecutor.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and the tractor-trailer driver could face additional charges for his reckless and criminal conduct. Any criminal charges, though, would not preclude the victims of the fatal car accident from seeking damages from him through civil lawsuits. Particularly the family members of the deceased victim may have the option of suing the tractor-trailer driver through wrongful death litigation for the recovery of their losses.

Drunk drivers pose hazards to everyone they encounter on New Jersey roads. The actions of the tractor-trailer driver in this story cost one family a loved one and an innocent driver his life. When victims suffer as a result of car collisions it is important that they understand their rights and options for protecting their opportunities for seeking damages.
